Chaplaincy and faith support

Chaplaincy

St George’s chaplain offers pastoral support for all students and is available to people of all faiths and those who have no particular religious affiliation. In as far as possible, the chaplain offers support in whatever way is most needed, socially, pastorally and spiritually.

The chaplaincy office is located on the second floor of the main St George's site (Hunter Wing, near the counselling offices) and is available for face-to-face support every Wednesday. Joan Tierney, Roman Catholic chaplain, offers email support at any time.

Multi faith and quiet contemplation room

The multi-faith and quiet contemplation room forms part of the Diversity Centre which is situated on the first floor of the main  St George's site (Jenner wing by staircase 20). St George's is committed to creating a campus environment characterised by good relations between all of its staff and students and to the promotion of tolerance, mutual understanding and inter-faith dialogue. The institution recognises that prayer and meditation may be performed in different ways within the different faith traditions. Thus the institution provides a multi-faith and quiet contemplation room for the use of all its staff and students. This is a ‘neutral’ space which can be used by people of all faith groups, and none, within the university.

St George’s, University of London is co-located with St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust and staff and students have access to the hospital faith facilities.

The hospital chapel has its own private garden and a multi-faith room. It can be found on the ground floor of the main St George's site (St James Wing) and is always open for personal prayer or reflection.

The chaplaincy within the hospital also keeps close links with representatives of local faith groups and is happy to put people in touch and provide information about local places of worship.

St George’s Students’ Union also has a number of faith societies that provide students with an opportunity to support each other spiritually, discuss and debate faith issues and hold events.
