Clinical Practice MRes

This masters course provides a focused programme of practical and academic study to prepare you for leadership and management in clinical research. The course is suitable for nurses, midwives and allied health professionals.

You will learn about the processes and principles associated with good clinical practice research and develop a range of transferable and applied research skills that will enable you to plan, manage and independently undertake research. You will learn to generate research questions, design and test data collection approaches and interpret results within a scientific framework.

You will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to take your first step for your future career in clinical research. You will learn how to promote and drive change in clinical practice, and prepare yourself for a career in leadership and management of clinical research.

Gain access to full-time funded studentships

If currently employed by the NHS you will have the opportunity to access one of ten full-time studentships funded by the National Institute for Health Research and the Chief Nursing Officer, subject to entry requirements and a successful interview. The funding covers the course fees and your employer will be reimbursed the cost of your salary for the duration of your secondment. As competition for studentships is fierce there are also self-funded full-time and part-time options available.

By the end of the course you will be able to participate fully in the academic community through debate and discussion; adopt an evidence based approach to practice; present to clinical meetings and conferences and publish your work in relevant clinical journals.

Assessment: Research protocol, portfolio, oral and poster presentations, statistics examination, dissertation
 
Funding: Ten fully funded studentships are available, funded by the National Institute for Health Research and the Chief Nursing Officer including full salary recharge costs for year's secondment. Self-funded full-time and part-time places are also available
