World Malaria Day 2013 at St George’s aimed to give local people, including schoolchildren, the chance to learn about the battle against malaria being waged in the heart of their community.

The event was the first in the St George's, University of London 'Spotlight on science' series, a programme that demonstrates to the public how St George’s scientists are tackling major scientific issues.

St George's malaria expert Professor Sanjeev Krishna delivered a presentation about the scourge of malaria and about his group’s latest research into preventing the parasite from spreading infection. His colleague Dr Henry Staines led an interactive exercise to give members of the public an insight into malaria. A St George’s student also talked about her experience of working with malaria.
