DMEL-2 and DMEL-3 are engineered to express temperature-sensitive SV40 large T antigen. DMEL-3 is unpigmented at the permissive and pigmented at the nonpermissive (higher) temperature, except at higher passage levels (see ref., Prince et al 2001). DMEL-2 is pigmented.
Ink4a-Arf null Listed with wild-type cells because all tested immortal melanocyte lines fail to express p16Ink4a anyway (and often Arf). These lines were initially called melan-Ink4a(x) but this was changed to avoid confusion with Ink4a-only null cells. Many of the color-mutant lines below are also from Ink4a-Arf null mice.
