Biomedical Science BSc (Hons) UCAS code: B940

Professor Alan Johnstone, Director Biomedical Science BSc

"We received more than 1,200 applications for entry in 2011. In response to this demand, St George’s has increased the number of places available and invested heavily in staff and other teaching resources, such as lecture theatres and laboratories. Consequently, morale is high among both staff and students, and St George’s Biomedical Science course is a happy place to be.

The course is ideal for anyone interested in the medical sciences, and it leaves open an enormous range of exciting career options, including medical research in the pharmaceutical industry or public research institutes, diagnostic or forensic medicine, technology transfer and biomedical product marketing, as well as the more general careers in scientific teaching, publishing or civil service, which are open to science graduates. It can also be an excellent background for graduate entry into medicine or dentistry. Our students range from people who are set on a specific career, to those rethinking their options after first considering medicine, to those who don’t want to be tied down to one career at this stage.

The quality of the course and the supportive environment of St George’s is attested to by the low drop-out rate of five- seven per cent (compared with the national average of 22 per cent) and by the first destination of our graduates, less than four per cent of whom are unemployed. In the latest National Student Survey, the Biomedical Science course scored 86 per cent on the 'overall satisfaction' question."
