Entry requirements

Biomedical Science MRes

Entry requirements

Academic entry requirements

Applicants should normally have, or be expected to achieve, a minimum second class degree in a subject which offers an appropriate grounding in biomedical sciences (or an equivalent overseas qualification). Modules studied at level 6 (as part of the first degree) must also be relevant to the pathway applied for. This qualification should have been awarded within the last five years (from date of application).

An academic transcript must be submitted WITH the application form to aid in the assessment of an applicant’s suitability for the applied pathway.

English language requirements

Applicants will be expected to evidence English language ability.  Exceptions to this requirement can be found on our English language web pages.

Applicants who do not meet these criteria will be expected to undertake an International English Language Test (IELTS) that assesses the four elements of reading, writing, speaking and listening. For Postgraduate study, applicants should achieve a minimum overall score of IELTS 6.5, with the remaining sub-test components at a score of no less than 6.0.

Test certificates should be dated within the last two years to be considered valid. Applicants will only be permitted to submit two test attempts undertaken within a 12 month period.

Non-academic entry requirements

Work Experience

All applicants are expected to demonstrate relevant work experience, undertaken within the last three years.

Personal statement

Candidates will be required to outline reasons for applying for the course and preferred pathway on the application form.

References

Applicants will be expected to provide two satisfactory references to support their application. One of these must be a recent academic reference and the other should be EITHER a second academic reference or a professional/employer reference. Both references should be dated within the last year (from date of application).

Further guidance regarding references can be found on the How to apply page, along with the confidential Reference Request Form to be completed by appointed referees.

Overseas Applications

If you are providing overseas qualifications, please ensure that you send certified copies of certificates, transcripts and grading schemes to support your application.  These documents should be translated into English (if not already written in English) by a certified translator.  They should also be accompanied by a UK NARIC certificate of comparability, as this will help us to determine the UK equivalence of your qualifications.  For more information, please visit the UK NARIC website at www.naric.org.uk
