Please note that the Elective scheme at St George's is now closed for 2012. We have made all of our allocations and can no longer process or accommodate placement requests for 2012. Please do not submit an enquiry form, as your request will not be processed.
If you have a question regarding the elective scheme, please contact elective@sgul.ac.uk and we will endeavour to respond to your email within two weeks of its receipt.
The elective scheme will reopen towards the end of 2012 for 2013 placement applications. We advise that you monitor our web pages carefully from October 2012 for further information on potential vacancies.
When do I need to apply?
If you are a Home student and a resident of the UK or an EU/EEA country, you can apply for a placement three months prior to your preferred start date.
If you are applying from a country outside of the EU/EEA, you should apply for a placement six months prior to your preferred start date. This is to ensure that we can complete the necessary paperwork to allow you to apply for a Tier 4 student visa, necessary for entry to the UK. More information on immigration.
How do I apply?
Before you can submit a formal application to St George’s, you must complete an enquiry form and submit this to elective@sgul.ac.uk. Details of this can be found under application process below. If you are successful, you will be issued with a provisional offer and asked to complete a short application form for our records. Once this has been received, we can move onto stage two of the application process and the submission of the documents outlined on the entry requirements page.
Please note that if you are applying from a German university or medical school, please check the DAAD scheme website.
How much does an elective placement cost?
The current application fee for an elective placement is £300. Please note that this fee is non-refundable if you choose not to continue with your placement.
Can I apply for more than one specialty, on more than one date?
Unfortunately we are unable to consider multiple requests for Specialties and dates. Candidates who wish to apply can only submit one enquiry request for one specialty at a time.

If you would like apply for an elective placement at St George’s and have read all of the above information carefully, here’s what you need to do:
- Ensure that you can meet the entry requirements above prior to your preferred placement start date.
- Complete the Enquiry form available below.
Enquiry form (PDF) - Send your completed enquiry form to elective@sgul.ac.uk. You can expect to receive a decision from us within 14 working days of your submission.
- If you are successful, you will be issued with a provisional offer, in the first instance, and asked to complete a full application form and supply various documents.
