The Freedom of Information Act (2000) aims to ensure a greater degree of openness and accountability among public authorities by giving the public the right to ask any public sector organisation for the recorded information they have on any subject.

The Act requires us to publish a Model Publication Scheme. This is a guide to the information that we hold, categorised using seven ‘classes’. The Scheme explains how we make certain information available and whether a fee will be charged for providing it.

Information not covered by the Scheme

In most cases we're expected to respond to you within 20 working days, though under some circumstances we may agree with you to extend this. We try to provide information free of charge wherever possible; however, on some occasions a fee may apply and we'll let you know if this is the case.

Exemptions

The Freedom of Information Act recognises that specific information may be exempt from the general right of access established by the law, for example, information that's commercially sensitive, personal details and information that an organisation otherwise intends to publish. In addition, we may not be required to provide information in draft form, or information that's no longer readily available or is difficult to access.

Complaints and appeals

If you're unhappy with our response or the way we've handled your request, you can appeal in writing to our Secretary and Academic Registrar:
