The Division of Basic Medical Sciences was created in 2002 as the first of the six Divisions into which St George's University of London is now organised. The Head of Division is Professor Nigel A Brown and the Divisional Manager is Miss Sheryl Pond.

The research theme of the Division is Cell Signalling in Medicine and it is divided into five administrative Centres: Metabolic and Molecular Signalling, Ion Channels and Cell Signalling, Developmental and Endocrine Signalling, Clinical Pharmacology and Teaching and the Academic and Learning Centre

The Divisional Management Team (DMT) manages the Division.  It is chaired by Professor Nigel Brown, the Head of Division, and its members are the Divisional Co-ordinators in the fields of Enabling Technologies (Prof P. Andrews), Teaching (Prof N Brown), Research (Prof T Bolton), Postgraduate & Postdoctoral Staff (Dr H Mason) and Professional and Personal Development (Prof S Whitehead) and the Directors of the Centres for Metabolic and Molecular Signalling (Prof M Fisher); Ion Channels and Cell Signalling (Prof W Large); Developmental and Endocrine Signalling (Prof G Whitley); Clinical Pharmacology (Dr E Baker) and the Academic and Learning Centre (Dr P Murphy), and the Divisional Manager (Miss S Pond).
